SPINAL DECOMPRESSION

Spinal Decompression in Frisco, TX

What is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal Decompression Therapy is a method for stretching the spine. The process can be done through surgical or non-surgical methods.

Ultimately, the goal of Spinal Decompression Therapy is to relieve back and lower body pain.

Low back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide.

Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work.

One-half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year.

Experts estimate that as much as 80% of the population will experience a back problem at some time in their lives.

The spine is a complex structure that changes as we age. Spine components include vertebrae, joints, muscles, ligaments, discs, a spinal cord, and nerves.

In a healthy spine, the vertebrae, facet joints, and discs are vertically stacked. Every component is held together by a system of ligaments that support the proper alignment of the spine.

The spine has four natural curves to help distribute pressure while providing structural support and stability. Gel-like cushions called disks are located between the bones in your spine to absorb shock from weight applied to the spine.

About Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression with DRX9000® Lumbar True Spinal Decompression Machine®

Non-surgical spinal decompression is a type of motorized traction used to stretch the spine gently.

The process takes the pressure off the spinal disk by creating negative pressure in the disc. This process results in the impacted disks retracting and thus taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. Spinal decompression ultimately promotes the movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the disks to aid natural healing.

When to Undergo Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression

Non-surgical spinal decompression can be used to relieve the following:

  • Back or neck pain or sciatica, which is pain, weakness, or tingling that extends down the leg
  • Bulging or herniated disks or degenerative disk disease
  • Worn spinal joints (called posterior facet syndrome)
  • Injured or diseased spinal nerve roots

Complimentary Treatments with Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression

Your doctor may suggest additional therapies to aid spinal decompression therapy. These therapies include:

  • Electrical stimulation (electric current that causes certain muscles to contract)
  • Ultrasound (the use of sound waves to generate heat and promote healing)
  • Heat or cold therapy

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Is Not For Everyone

The following groups of people are not good candidates for non-surgical spinal decompression:

  • Pregnant women
  • Patients with broken vertebrae
  • Patients who have had spinal fusion
  • Patients who have an artificial disc, or other implants, in their spine
  • Patients with failed back surgery
  • Anyone who has had multiple surgeries without recovery or pain improvement
